Orycon Party Wing Reservations

7.18.05 - There's a chance you may have ended up at this web site because you need information regarding hosting parties at Orycon. Our very own Na' Yor has been assigned by the Orycon committee to handle party wing room reservations.

If you're planning on hosting a party at Orycon, you really need to go read the party Q&A page here.

Stargate SG-1 The Alliance

7.1.05 - We've been playing Unreal Tournament at conventions for quite a while now. It all started with the original UT, then UT2003 and currently UT2K4. Typically it's only been "Deathmatch" gaming because the quick pace works well in a room party atmosphere.

By a strange quirk of fate, an SG-1 first person shooter based on the Unreal game engine is almost completed. The game is called "Stargate SG-1 The Alliance." we're really exited about this game not only because it's a fresh Unreal game, but because it fits with the club's SG-1 theme.

You can check out the cool trailer here.

New Toys

rack mounted computers       jbl speakers
6.6.05 - Here's an equipment update for Orycon. This last weekend, we test mounted the dual shuttle LAN pc setups. What you're looking at is two shuttle pc's mounted to an aluminum tray, a 1RU power conditioner at the top all inside a SKB 6RU "roto" molded case. We have two of these cases for a total of 4 computers.

We also set up our new 15 inch pole mounted JBL speaker cabinets and enjoyed a few chest whomping dance tunes. The sound system will rounded out by a 1200 watt amplifier, compressor, power supply and 12 channel mixer.

When we put these computers permanently in the cases, we'll document the build process so you can put together your own LAN computer setup.

Ton o' Fun!
4.28.05 - Get ready. Our first annual clothing drive, the "Ton o' Fun!" is officially underway. Our goal is to collect one ton of clothing over the next month or so and donate it to a clothing bank.

The organization were doing this service work for doesn't sell donated cloths. They send the clothing to impoverished countries or use them for relief after natural disasters like the recent tsunami. Updates will be posted regularly.

5.5.05 - Update. We have collected and donated 756 pounds of clothing and shoes so far. We have more, but I wont have a chance to donate the items until this coming weekend.

5.6.05 - Update. Today's donations got us over half way to our goal. Here's a photo of L'Mak looking smug.

5.12.05 - Update. It's been a busy week. We've had to make four trips to drop off donations since last Friday. We are now officially at 1,323 pounds. Here's a photo of Na' Yor with a sore back.

5.21.05 - Update. We hit up all of our neighbors this last week for donations and collected a whopping 429 pounds of clothes! Our total collection weight is now 1,752 pounds. We need to collect 248 additional pounds in the next 10 days to meet our goal.

5.31.05 - Update. We have officially met and surpassed our collection goal. The final weight came up to be 2,367 pounds of donated clothing. We've had a great time rounding up all of these clothes and thank everyone for making the "Ton o' Fun!" clothing drive a success.

Watch out for our next "Ton o' Fun!" coming up in September 2005. This next time around we'll be collecting one ton of food!

Orycon 27 Party Q & A

5.5.05 - It's time to gear up for Orycon 27. I'm a little apprehensive about the hotel situation. I believe this is the first year OryCon has been held at the Hilton hotel location, so I'm expecting logistic problems to abound.

At last year's Orycon, I spent a great deal of Friday night trying co-ordinate our party with the convention staff and the hotel. They shut or party down three times and our neighbors twice because of a communication break down.

This year, we plan on being much more prepared for problems. I've created an Orycon Party Questionnaire page listing everything we need to find out in the next four months to make sure our Orycon party goes smoothly.

You can check it out here.

Who We Are

The Jaffa Legions are a LAN gaming club dedicated to Charity Awareness, and to having an enjoyable time in charitable service.

We believe giving monetary donations to a charity organization lacks personal involvement. It’s easy to donate money and forget. It’s much harder committing yourself to a worth-while cause.

We believe charity involves work and personal sacrifice.

We, as The Jaffa Legions commit ourselves to spreading the awareness of worth-while charities.

We work diligently to spread awareness of charities having low administration expenses, have significant numbers of volunteers and can provide measurable proof of impact towards their cause.

We are The Jaffa Legions. We exist to serve.
